Somehow a month has gone by. Milly Joy was born on October 15, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. A day when I will always think of my Ellis and now will always celebrate my Milly Joy. I'm glad my two babies can share that day.
She's named for two of her great-grandmothers -- Mildred and Joyce. Two women that left amazing legacies of faith. Two women that I hope Milly will grow to be like. And, I love the sentiment of her carrying the name Joy. She has renewed our joy in ways I didn't anticipate. I didn't know we could feel like this again.
Bringing Milly home has made me miss Ellis with a new intensity. I'm seeing and doing all the things I longed to do with him. It allows me to cherish these moments with Milly, but makes my heart ache for what was lost. It's been difficult to put any of this into words, but I do know the emotions run deep. I've become accustomed to the tangling of joy and sorrow in my life, this last month accentuated that. With time and practice I'm finding better ways to wear both well.
Welcome to our House of Hope
Thanks for coming to check in on us. This is our story. Ellis was our first...the one who made us a mommy and a daddy. In April 2011 we went in for a routine ultrasound at 21 weeks, hoping to find out if Baby Henry was a boy or a girl. Instead, we discovered that there was something very wrong. Soon, our little boy was diagnosed with holoprosencephaly, HPE for short. We have HoPE that God is in the details, even when the days seem dark. He was there as we waited for Ellis to enter this world and we believe He was there when Ellis left us to enter a world we don't yet know. Our love for Ellis remains strong. He will always be our little guy. Thank you for remembering him with us.
"tangling of joy and sorrow" is so perfect! So glad she's here and healthy and you get to mother her!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Tim and Rebecca - beautifully stated. May you always hold close the sweet memories of Ellis, may Milly Joy get to know him through and you, and may you both continue to be enriched and enjoy the wonders of parenthood with this "joyous little bundle"!
ReplyDeleteWe are so happy for you two. The LORD is good! "... Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning." Psalm 30:5b Congratulations!
